NEAR JACKSONVILLE, Ore. — Investigators think speed may have played a role in the death of a motorcyclist on Tuesday night. Troopers shut down Hanley Road right outside Hanley Farm to investigate the crash.
Oregon State Police said a motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Highway 238 near milepost 36 when he hit a pole and died from the impact. OSP troopers said 54-year-old Scott Nuckles failed to safely negotiate his 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle through a left curve; he then drove drove off the highway and collided head-on into a power pole. Nuckles was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Medford Police Department, Central Point Police Department, Jackson County Fire District 3, and ODOT. A section of Highway 238 was closed about two hours with a detour around the scene available for area traffic.
