SWEET HOME, Ore. — A traffic crash Wednesday afternoon led to the death of an adult female along Highway 20 just west of Sweet Home. The 85-year old Sweet Home native was identified as Leretta Moore and had both her grandson and great-grandson in the vehicle who walked away with minor injuries.
Oregon State Police said Moore pulled into a left turn lane and, without stopping, turned left directly in front of an opposing vehicle driven by 19-year old Tyrell Rankin. The vehicles then collided, coming to a stop just off the side of the road.
Moore was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead upon arriving. Her 32-year old grandson, Jeromy Moore, and 10-year old great-grandson, Jace Moore, received minor injuries. The opposing vehicle’s driver was not injured. It is believed that all of the individuals involved in the accident were using safety restraints and in both of the vehicles the airbags were deployed.
The highway was partially blocked for about two hours with minimal impact to traffic.
