NEAR BROOKINGS, Ore. — Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of one man along Highway 101 just north of the Oregon/California border.
Police say the crash was first reported around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, off Highway 101 near milepost 362. Oregon State Police say 29-year-old Joel Ramos was returning home from work at Pelican Bay State Prison when his vehicle crossed the southbound lane and went off the highway. The car struck a large stump and then crashed head-on into a tree where it came to rest.
Driver fatigue is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash. OSP troopers from the Gold Beach office are investigating the cause of the crash with the assistance of local emergency responding agencies.
