Fatal Commercial Truck Crash

treeHOOD RIVER, Ore. — Oregon State Police is investigating a fatal commercial truck crash that happened Friday morning along I-84 in Hood River.

At approximately 5:12 a.m. a 2004 Freightliner truck that had an empty container was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 near mile marker 63. For unknown reasons, the truck drifted to the left and struck the guardrail.  The truck then continued into the median where it collided with a tree. A part of the tree came to rest on the left eastbound lane.

Upon arrival of emergency responders, the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say he was wearing his safety restraints. The investigation will look into whether the driver suffered a medical emergency while driving that may have been a factor.
