MEDFORD, Ore. — The happiest place on earth turns into a nightmare for one Southern Oregon family.

The Johnson family planned a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. A family friend referred a travel agent named Eric Parker. The friend used Parker for several legitimate trips in the past. The family saved up money for the next several months and even sold water bottles at the park.

The Johnson family says they left Southern Oregon two weeks ago and traveled three straight days to Florida. When they arrived at the park, Parker was no where to be found. They wired Parker money and gave them their credit card number to book the trip. The family gave him $7,500.

“We were trying to stay positive about it for at least the first couple of days but really, it started daunting after the second day,” said Calyssa Johnson.

The family’s luck turned around through the help of the community. A family members posted on her Facebook about the scam. She says in two days, dozens of people donated twenty-seven hundred dollars. The friend who referred Parker to the family was the first to donate money.

The Johnson family is returning to Southern Oregon next Monday. Medford Police say stick to bigger name travel agencies and never wire money.
