ROGUE RIVER, Ore. – After enduring more than fifty years of pounding, freeway traffic a key bridge on Interstate 5 at Rogue River is getting some reinforcement.
While traffic roars by overhead, crews are working underneath the bridge over Evans Creek, grinding girders smooth and rounding square edges, and sealing small cracks with epoxy. Then strips of high strength fabric are glued to the concrete, sealed over, and covered with a cement glaze.
ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming says there are nearly 40 bridges on I-5 between Ashland and Grants Pass. This project is costing about $1.2 million.
