SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — On Monday, the woman accused of shooting and killing Officer Chris Kilcullen will appear in front of a judge. The Eugene motorcycle officer tried to pull over Cheryl Kidd Friday afternoon, but she sped away.
During the chase that followed, she allegedly shot at Kilcullen. Sh then led more than 40 law enforcement vehicles to a mountain road just outside Oakridge. Police and swat negotiators followed her up that rough, single lane service road for 15 miles until Kidd couldn’t go any farther. After several hours she surrendered.
Police say Cheryl Kidd doesn’t have a criminal record but her neighbors have expressed concerns about her mental health. Kidd’s arraignment is set for Monday morning.
A candle light vigil was held Saturday night to honor Officer Chris Kilcullen. Those who came out say it was their way of showing support and their appreciation to the ones in uniform.
A police memorial service with full honors for Officer Kilcullen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Matthew Knight Arena. The public is welcome to attend.
