EUGENE, Ore. — After months of anticipation and construction, the Washington Jefferson Skatepark is open.
The $2.5 million project offers boarders more than 23,000 square feet of ramps and riding space.
It’s the largest covered, lit skatepark in the country. The lights will come in handy at night, but the cover came in handy Friday.
“It’s like 90 percent of the year raining here in Oregon, so it’s nice to have some cover and for free, you know, to be able to come down here and just enjoy some skateboarding when it’s raining would be amazing,” said skateboarder Branden Rowton.
It’s also open to bikes and rollerblades. An official grand opening will happen in June.
