Elderly Man Dies in I-5 Crash

Roseburg Crash NEAR ROSEBURG, Ore. — Oregon State Police say an elderly Roseburg man is dead after a crash on I-5 Friday afternoon. Bill Canfield, 88, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Carole Canfield, 76, both from Roseburg. Officers say the driver turned to the right, as if she were taking an exit ramp, when she returned to the southbound lanes of I-5. Upon that return, she struck a guardrail, spinning the vehicle into the roadway. That’s when a Toyota pickup hit the vehicle.

The passengers in the pickup only sustained minor injuries. Carole Canfield is in critical condition at a nearby hospital. Bill Canfield passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

Police say a secondary crash happened three miles north of the original crash involving five vehicles resulting in minor injuries.

Apparently this is a crappy weekend to be on I-5…best wishes to all involved (in the numerous accidents).
