MEDFORD, Ore. — City councilors approved a plan to bring more visitors, and locals, to downtown Medford.
An “economic improvement district” will be formed from property owners in the downtown area. The Heart of Medford Association says the district would provide a steady funding source with more flexibility than funds through “MURA” or the city’s general fund.
“We saw that this works, this is an answer to an existing problem. It puts property owners in the driver’s seat of deciding what are those things that we need to have on going and how do we pay for it,” said Heart of Medford Association’s Diane Raymond
The Heart of Medford Association is still looking into the best way for assessing how much the downtown property owners would pay but expect to raise more than a quarter of a million dollars over three years.
