EAGLE POINT, Ore. — A second-alarm fire in Eagle Point had fire crews from both Fire District and Medford Fire on scene early Monday morning. The fire was started after 1 AM in the garage of a home of Arrowhead Trail in Eagle Point.
Two people were inside the home at the time of the fire and were able to make it out safely, however their dog did not make it out in time and lost its life.
Fire officials are still investigating what may have caused the fire. Officials told us one of the occupants said he emptied an ashtray from the car into the garbage can earlier. Fire officials have yet to confirm that is the cause of the fire, but that is an area they are looking at, officials said.
Early estimates on the amount of damage have not been made, but fire officials said about a third of the house was destroyed.
