Redshirt freshman wide receiver Tacoi Sumler will transfer from the University of Oregon and look to land with a school closer to his home in Miami, Florida. Even though the Ducks are weak at wide receiver, Sumler figured to be on the short end of the battle for playing time.
“Not everybody can play when you have 85 kids on scholarship,” said head coach Chip Kelly. “We’re only allowed to travel 70 so at some point in time, some kids, they have to understand their role and if I’m not going to be playing, maybe I should go somewhere else. We told him we’d help him in anyway we can.”
Sumler was a four star recruit out of high school. He came to the Ducks as part of a talented wide receiver class that featured fellow redshirt freshmen Devon Blackmon and B.J. Kelley. Kelly said that Sumler will likely look to transfer to an FCS school closer to his home.
