Jaws of Life Used to Free Driver

CAR PINNEDMEDFORD, Ore. — A crash involving two pickup trucks sends one flying through the air, but its driver escaped without serious injuries.

The crash happened at the intersection of Crater Lake Avenue and Owen Drive around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Medford Police said a Ford Explorer was driving westbound when it was t-boned by Dodge pickup. Witnesses said the crash caused the Ford to spin and flip in the air.

“It was still flying through the air while upside down, almost doing cartwheels, and then landed on its top and skidded down the road,” said Stacey Clouse, who saw the crash.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to get the driver of the Ford out of his truck. He was taken to a local hospital with a sore head and neck. The driver of the Dodge was also OK. Police say neither car appeared to be speeding.

As a someone who lives very near this intersection and drives it daily I cannot help but wonder what it will take to get a light or 4 way stop put into place – the accidents are growing in number and getting more violent!

Unfortunately it will take a death or two at that intersection before the city of Medford realizes that something needs to be done. I avoid that intersection as much as possible. People fly down Owen too fast in both directions.
