GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A Josephine county man who admits to hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving drunk will spend 10 years in prison.

A judge sentenced Steven McClun to prison for Manslaughter and DUI charges. The judge dismissed Reckless Driving. On March 17th, 2013 McClun was intoxicated while driving near Redwood Avenue. He passed out and veered off the road into the opposite lane. McClun struck Nathan Pike who was walking and killed him.

In court, the victim’s family told McClun they pray he gets help. The prosecuting attorney, Ryan Mulkins, says it’s rare for a case like this to be resolved so quickly. But he says McClun admitted to the crime and plead guilty.

“It doesn’t excuse what he did. He still took a young man’s life for no reason. But to his credit, he did stand up and take accountability for that,” said Mulkins.

McClun has several DUI charges in various counties in Oregon and California. Pike is leaving behind two daughters, an 8-year-old and a baby.
