Douglas Co. Sheriff Warns of Mail Theft

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — An increasing number of Douglas County residents are falling victim to mail theft.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports unknown suspects are removing things such as gift cards, checks, credit cards and bank statements from mailboxes, to steal people’s identity and/or money.

If you have holiday mail containing money or gift cards, the sheriff’s office suggests: bringing mail containing those items directly to the post office or hand deliver them to a postal worker.┬áThe sheriff’s office also suggests informing your UPS, DHL or Fed Ex driver not to leave packages at your home when you’re not there and asking someone to collect your mail daily if you will be out of time.
