MEDFORD, Ore. — As Cover Oregon works out its website kinks, local hospitals say the fear of the unknown has many patients lining up for surgery.
Doctors at the Total Joint Replacement Center at Providence Medical Center say they’re seeing a much higher demand than normal.
Right now is generally a busy time of year for orthopedic surgery, but many patients indicate their big concern is that they won’t be able to get those procedures covered when the changes come into effect.
“In general there just needs to be some more clarity. You know, more education for the patients definitely, as well as the healthcare providers,” said Sheridan Pyeatt at Providence Medical Center.
Doctors say Cover Oregon should actually increase access to insurance, but high demand could mean longer waits once the law comes into effect.
