(CNN) — Fans of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, have new hope for the next chapter in the saga.
Disney announced Tuesday that the company is buying Lucasfilm, which includes the epic Star Wars franchise, for a little over $4 billion.
Lucasfilm was owned by founder and filmmaker George Lucas. Of the deal, Lucas said he had always believed that Star Wars could live beyond him, and he wanted to see the deal sealed in his lifetime.
Disney announced plans to keep the episodes coming, starting with Star Wars: Episode 7 with a targeted release in 2015 and the goal of releasing new episodes every two or three years after that. Lucasfilms joins ESPN, Pixar, Marvel and ABC, which all fall under the Disney umbrella.
