KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore.– The state of Oregon is beginning a new system to keep children safe at home and out of foster care.
The Oregon Department of Human Services announced Thursday, Klamath, Lane, and Lake counties are rolling out the new statewide initiative. It is called “Differential Response”. It is a redesign of the current system’s initial response to reports of neglect or abuse.
Some families will be offered services without opening a case with welfare, if they can cooperate with a series of guidelines. This includes dealing immediately with threats to their child’s safety, assist with safety planning, and gain support from family and the community when they can’t do it alone.
