MEDFORD, Ore. — The demand for flu shots in Jackson County remains high and if you’re looking for a vaccine for your child, you may have to call your local pediatrician.
In Oregon, children under the age of 11 can not receive a vaccine from a pharmacy. The Jackson County Health Department offers the flu shot to both children and adults. Health officials recommend getting the flu vaccine, but there are things you and your kids can do if the vaccine is hard to come by.
“If you’re not able to get out there and get a shot or your pediatrician doesn’t have one available, there are other things you can do. Washing your hands and getting your liquids and rest are really some of the best things you can do,” Belle Shepard with the Jackson County Public Health Department.
The most recent data shows Oregon is just under 3% of all outpatients have an influenza-like virus.
