NEAR GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Oregon State Police is investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in a remote area near Grants Pass. Troopers responded to reports of the body around 3:30 Friday afternoon at a small section of creek on Demaray Drive.
The body was identified as 43-year old Johnny Hamlin. Hamlin was apparently a caretaker, living in a small trailer on the property where he was found.
Spokespeople with OSP say the call came from a man who was checking on his horses stabled at the property — and said Hamlin had likely been there for a couple of days.
The investigation is being led by the Josephine County Major Crime Team — which includes Oregon State Police, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, and the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.
Investigators have declined to comment until an autopsy has been completed by the State Medical Examiner. That autopsy has not yet been scheduled.
