[ORIGINAL STORY] PHOENIX, Ore.– There was a deadly car crash near Phoenix on Highway 99  just after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. Oregon State Police say a Jeep veered off the highway near Cabbage Lane and crashed into a power pole, then a tree, and into a ditch. This caused the jeep to become engulfed in flames.

The driver of the jeep was pinned inside when the fire broke out. The driver was pronounced dead when responders arrived at the scene. Police say they are not sure what caused the accident at this time, and have not identified the driver.

Highway 99, just south of Cabbage Lane, was reduced to two lanes for about a fourth of a mile. Oregon State Police will continue to investigate this accident.

I sincerely hope that the driver of this jeep is resting peacefully with the angels and that his family find the strength they will need to deal with this loss. I was the only one who ran to help when I heard the cries for help. I ran as fast as I could and kept yelling back to him that I was coming to hang on. I am coming! I got to the jeep just as the screams subsided and I was helpless to do anything at that point. I am so sorry that I failed you . The pain in my heart is unbearable. I can only pray that in your last minutes you at least knew that someone cared and that someone was there with you. The tears will not stop rolling down my heartbroken face and the amount of sorrow in heart will never heal. To the family I want to say that I am so very sorry and that I did everything I could to try to help your son. Would everyone who reads this please say prayer for the young man who lost his life this morning and his Family. Words can not describe the grief in my heart.
