EAGLE POINT, Ore. — Today is the first deadline for Oregonians to sign up for health insurance to be covered by January 1st.
The deadline was moved up 11 days because the Cover Oregon website is still not working. This means the applications that were supposed to be filed quickly online are now being done on paper.
“It is taking longer to process the paper applications,” said Michelle Glass, Cover Oregon Representative. “When we initially started out we were thinking we would have access to the portal sooner than now. So the deadline had to be adjusted to give extra processing time to those paper applications.”
While you still cannot submit an application online the website does offer helpful information. You’re able to compare plans and find contact information for community partners who can help you enroll in a plan.
If you need help getting enrolled, today you can get that help from Oregon Action, one of Cover Oregon’s community partners. A representative will be available from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eagle Point Branch Library. If you miss today’s deadline, you will not be penalized in the New Year.
If you miss today’s deadline, you will not be penalized in the New Year. You will only get a penalty if you are not insured by March 31st.
