ORLEANS, Ca.– A representative of Six Rivers National Forest confirms a fire broke out along Highway 96 near Orleans, California in Humboldt county around 5:15 last night. The fire is burning into mostly privately owned timber land in rugged country along the lower Klamath River. Several families have been evacuated in the Camp Creek area, to Sommes Bar. As of last night, the fire was at 350 acres and is burning actively. There is little or no phone or power and very spotty cell phone coverage in that area.
There will be a community meeting tonight at six in Orleans to apprise locals of what’s going on. Highway 96 is closed in that area because of fire activity.
