CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State offense wasn’t as sharp in its second week with Cody Vaz at quarterback. As it turns out, it didn’t need to be. The Beavers gained just 226 yards, but a dominant defensive performance carried OSU to a 21-7 victory Saturday night in Corvallis.
Oregon State forced four Utah turnovers, including a fumble in the third quarter with the Utes inside the Beavers’ 5. Two first half turnovers set up a pair of Beavers’ touchdowns, giving OSU the ball in the red zone each time.
Storm Woods scored all three touchdowns for Oregon State, despite gaining just 46 yards on the ground. Cody Vaz was 16-26 for 174 yards in his second game as starter. The numbers weren’t impressive, but Vaz and the offense did not turn the ball over, something the Utes could not say.
With the win, the Beavers improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-12. Next up for Oregon State is a road contest against the University of Washington.
