Curry County Updates Tsunami Preparation

CURRY COUNTY, Ore. — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit off the coast of Japan on Thursday, and while it did not generate a tsunami, it has officials looking at how future tsunamis could affect the coastline here in Oregon.

Curry County has access to new tsunami inundation maps. The latest tsunami science allowed the state to provide estimated heights and timing for several communities in Curry County.

The maps also include the number of homes and buildings which the waves would reach.
