MEDFORD, Ore — Fire investigators began searching the scene of a fire that destroyed a warehouse early Wednesday morning.
The building was a total loss, along with a small antique business inside. Firefighters still do not know what sparked the fire. Crews spent most of Wednesday dousing hot spots inside the warehouse, because it was still too hot to go inside.
Thursday, firefighters examined the exterior of the building, and determined it was safe to go inside and start the investigation.
“We’re not in a big hurry to get this thing knocked down,” said Ralph Sartain, Fire Investigator with Medford Fire and Rescue. “We don’t want to damage anything. We need to go through and make sure everything’s accounted for and that any possible cause of the fire is examined.”
The 16,000 square foot building was built in 1929 and did not have a sprinkler system.
