CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — A head-on crash closed Blackwell Road in Central Point Friday evening. It appears the crash caused a loss of power to some residents in that area. It happened on the 6500 block of Blackwell Road just after 9 p.m. Friday. The road was closed in both directions, starting at the Interstate and heading east.
Fire District 3 crews joined Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene. Officials say, for some unknown reason, a man drove straight into a power pole. He was the only person in the car and was conscious when first responders arrived. He was taken to a hospital.
Firefighters say the power pole was high voltage with several lines linking up to it. The pole did not come down but one of the lines snapped. Because of the high risk involved, the power to the entire area was shut off as crews worked to fix it. That meant homes and businesses along Blackwell between I-5 and Kirtland Road were without power from most of the night.
There was no more information on the driver or the cause.
