MEDFORD, Ore. — Wednesday marked the first day Southern Oregon residents could sign up for new health insurance plan at a Cover Oregon fair.
25,000 Oregonians have already submitted their applications for Cover Oregon and in Southern Oregon all the reservation slots were filled on Wednesday at the Medford Ramada Inn.
Cover Oregon announced anyone who wants their health coverage to take effect by the New Year must submit their application no later than December 4th. The organization moved that deadline date closer because staff need time to sort through all the applications on their end.
One applicant says he’s glad there was a fair in Medford, considering the 19 page paper-work he needs to fill out. David McNeil says he’s signing up because his insurance was becoming too costly.
“I did previously, but the cost was almost prohibitive. It was quite a lot for someone my age. It continued to escalate and since I signed up, they charged me even more. And they raised the rate even more without even notifying me,” said McNeil.
This application process is sort of like a “plan b” to get Oregonians enrolled. After Cover Oregon launched about two months ago, the website had several issues with enrollment.
