(CNN) — Today marks the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, and people around the world are gathering to remember. In France, hundreds including World War II veterans and dignitaries commemorated the anniversary in France.
Closer to home, a million rose petals were dropped on the Statue of Liberty in New York today. A group of children also unfurled an American and French flag before the Lady Liberty. Afterwards, there was a ceremony on Liberty Island featuring WWII veterans, dignitaries, and the US French Honor Guards.
Also, The National Park Service & the Friends of World War II Memorial commemorated the anniversary of D-Day with a ceremony and wreath laying at the World War II Memorial.
