MEDFORD, Ore. — The Medford City Council had a moment of silence at the beginning of this afternoon’s meeting in respect for their fellow council member. Councilor Karen Blair passed away Wednesday after a months long battle with lung cancer.
Blair began representing the western and southwestern part of the city in 2011. Fellow councilors said she had attended meetings during her treatments, including as recently as three weeks ago. Council member Eli Matthews said she had slowed over the past few weeks. Matthews said she will be remembered for her hard work and dedication to the community.
“She lived and breathed the council she spent probably more hours than any of us studying an just being out in the community volunteering and it’s going to be a big gap to fill,” said councilman Eli Matthews.
The next steps in moving forward without a council member will be addressed at the next city council meeting on June 19th.
