Corps Stays With Algae Test

LOST CREEK LAKE, Ore. — Officials at Lost Creek Lake say they will keep their current method of testing for harmful levels of algae in the water. That comes as an alternative test is being developed that checks for the presence of toxins in the algae that are harmful to humans.

The Army Corps of Engineers say the current method of looking for algae blooms plays it safe, because it keeps people away from the possibility of those toxins.

Engineers at Lost Creek Lake say they found trace amounts of algae blooms earlier this year, but said it was not enough to be harmful to humans or to declare an algae advisory.
