A jury found Edgar Perez-Izara guilty of rape last week. The assault happened nearly a month ago on April 21. Police arrested Perez-Izara at his home on Cottage Street following the incident.
In court on Tuesday, the 14-year-old rape victim spoke out. She thanked the judge and lawyers involved in the case for bringing justice to her family.
Meanwhile, Perez-Izara said he will happily go to prison and accept his punishment. He told the judge and lawyers present that he was sorry for the pain he caused the victim and her family.
Perez-Izara will serve 100 months in the department of corrections and register as a sex offender.
