YREKA, Calif. — A man convicted for his part in a California gold theft was sentenced on Thursday.
Scott Wayne Bailey has been sentenced to 5 years in Siskiyou County Jail. He is scheduled for a restitution hearing on October 31st. He has the ability to earn credit for good behavior, which could mean he could out in two and a half years.
Scott Wayne Bailey plead guilty for his role in the January 2012 burglary, in which he and other suspects broke into the courthouse and stole gold, gold nuggets and other items from the courthouse display case. The Siskiyou County District Attorney’s office says the estimated loss of the burglary is over $1.2 million.
On August 15th, Bailey pleaded guilty as charged to 2nd degree burglary with an enhancement for a loss exceeding $200,000. The D.A.’s office says the maximum confinement time for this offense is 5 years. Bailey’s sentence will be served in the Siskiyou County Jail.
