Lightning is in the forecast for parts of northern California and southern Oregon. This morning firefighters are on high alert in the event of lightning caused fire.

morning." tormwatch 12's meteorologist caitlin harvey is in the weather center...with the current risk for lightning strikes... but first we go to newswatch 12's cassandra mlynarek who is live from the oregon department of forestry this morning ... she gives us a live look into the dispatch center keeping a watchful eye out for lightning caused fires. [e9]cml dispatch center ii-live you can see the dispatch center comes equipped with plenty of cameras to keep an eye across both jackson and josephine counties... odf has 22 cameras... along with the ability to track areas that are at the highest risk for receiving lightning. anytime there's lightning - it puts odf on the alert.... storms are headed into northern california and southern oregon this morning. the cameras allow the dispatcher to see smoke in really remote areas and pinpoint a fire... it's not just odf that is on the alert - siskiyou county is also at risk for lightning strikes... newswatch 12 spoke with one fire lookout personnel who explains the use of aircraft to help cover rural areas and get a handle on a fire before before it gets out of control. the aircraft is extremely helpful on the klamath. we are very steep and sparsely populated forest with a very windy and long driven road so it's imperative to have somebody in the air to get there fast. they are able to assess the situation and help the ground crews get in because you can stumble around out there a lot and be lost and with somebody above you telling you take a right, right now, that works well. one of the biggest problems with lightning is that it can cause multiple fires with one strike ... coming up in our next half hour - odf's process behind keeping your family safe with this dispatch center ... but first... let's get to stormwatch 12's
