you, this is newswatch all about preparation, you can see crews here on the illinois river road are busy at work using chainsaws and other tools to clear out all of this brush and vegetation that runs along the side of the road to prevent it from possibly becoming fuel if the fire were to get to this point." when it comes to the klondike fire, preparation is key. fire crews have been doing this kind of work for quite awhile .. cutting down lower parts of trees that could act as fuel. it's hard work, but with high winds in the forecast tomorrow, it's crucial. "we want to be ready, you don't want to be scrambling when the fire's pushing, you want that ready ahead of time." he says the fire isn't growing in just one way, but in all directions. "when you have this large of a perimeter, and it's inching outwards in all directions that's where you get that eighteen hundred acres of growth in 24 hours." as for the smoke, you may hate it.. "we don't like it either, but the smoke has been keeping a cap the fire. it's hard for us to breath, it's hard for the fire to breath." and if it clears out, he says we could see a lot of fire growth. lyon says hundreds of firefighters are working 24/7 on this fire.
