today: we'll remain dry and smoky today, especially west of the cascades. air quality is taking a hit, and has been unhealthy in jackson county and northern the mid and upper 80s, and the lower 90s west of the cascades. some gusty conditions will move in this afternoon into portions of jackson, josephine and curry counties. a red flag warning has been issued for western rogue valley and the illinois valley in jackson, josephine and curry counties from 1 pm until 9 pm today. winds gusts up to 30 mph and very low relative humidity down to 13% will lead to extreme fire growth potential. tonight: smoke will continue tonight under mostly clear skies. overnight lows will drop into the 50s throughout the entire region. extended: concern is growing for thunderstorms on sunday. isolated to scattered thunderstorms will likely develop sunday afternoon for the basin, along the cascade and siskiyou mountains, and into northern california. an isolated storm or two could slip into parts of the rogue valley sunday afternoon. because of the lightning threat and such dry conditions, a red flag warninghas been issued for these areas from 11 pm until 11 pm sunday. sunday will also be warmer. temperatures continue to heat up into next week. we'll also keep storm chances for the klamath basin, cascades, and northern california for monday, tuesday and wednesday. however, chances and coverage look less than sunday. an excessive heat watch has been issued for our inland locations monday morning through wednesday night. fire danger remains extreme and if any fires do spark, they could spread quickly.
