jake says, "jumping into another one of southern oregon's most challenging trails, today we're at kerby peak trail in selma. now three and a half miles to the top might not seem like a lot. but it's all uphill and we're gaining almost 3,000 feet in elevation. so dig in and let's take a hike." we start this trek at an elevation of 29 hundred feet.... the sky scraping trees are the only things that go up faster than the trail. for the first mile and a half, you're weathering the full brunt of steep incline .... here's a different view just to prove the point... it's an early portion defined by switchbacks .... and shade. a forest full of douglas firs is both beautiful and beneficial. because without them, this trail would not come recommended in the summer. continuing our climb, don't let any tiredness distort your sense of distance. it's going to feel like you've put in the work to cover over three miles... just remember that feel isn't real. jake says, "i'm not sure what i did to deserve this view but it sure is spectacular. the only problem is, this isn't the end of the trail. instead it's a false summit and we still have about half our hike left to go. let's keep pushing." some relief is in store with flat and even downhill portions at this point. you'll get a nice look at the brewer spruce research natural area ... and then the final push. a few more switchbacks get you past the final tough incline... and hoisted over 55 hundred feet in the air, you've made it to the top. jake says, "the reviews were not lying when they said your legs would be shot by the end, but now that we've reached the actual summit, it's a great time to get some rest and hopefully enjoy that picnic lunch you packed. from the top of kerby peak, jake garcia, happening in the weather in the
