Hundreds of skiers and riders soaked up the sunshine up on Mount Ashland for its last day of the season.

sionan says, "today access is getting around 1000 pounds of food to help the hungry. here's how it works- for every 5 items you donate, you get a free ticket to hit the slopes today." today's annual ski & snowboard against hunger event collected enough food to feed over 700 people. which means almost 200 lift tickets were given out to skiers who donated. that includes 9 year old emma. emma says, "i know that people can now eat and be comfortable while i have fun too." access says today is an opportunity for people to experience the mountain who might not have been able to afford it at the usual prices. yates says, "people come out here and they say i wouldn't have been able to come out and ski if it wasn't for the same because you know it's expensive and families can come out and get this free lift tickets so families have been doing that despite the weather." with this weekend closing out this years' season.. mt ashland says its totals show around 35 thousand visitors making it to the mountain. during a good ski season, staff says they'll see closer to 70 thousand people. hiram says, "we ended up with about 45 days that's about half of a good year and we ended up with about 166 inches of snowfall that is by no means even average but we squeeze every bit of fun out of it that we could." the ski area says it's already looking forward to next winter with season passes available on its website. in ashland, sionan barrett, newswatch12.
