representative peter congressman defazio touched on taxes, transportation and jobs, but more importantly for the people of brookings- the chetco bar fire. i spoke with one woman who loss part of her property in the fire last summer. she tells me she wants him to take more local input to prevent a massive loss." gerilynn, "we had a house that my mom and dad had built that had all of our antiques and i was kind of our museum from several generations and it burnt the whole thing up." dallen, "we believe there was a lot of mishandling it and misinformation also." the people who lost property in the fire are asking congressman defazio how it was allowed to grow to almost 200 thousand acres. defazio, "whether it was a management problem or it just didn't have enough air support- because that seems to me that it was so small to begin with if they had air assets available it could've been extinguished." defazio says there's an ongoing investigation into the bar fire. defazio, "i want to get to the bottom of why we didn't use the supertanker. oregon is putting the supertanker on call as a state now, but why didn't the feds use it?" congressman defazio says the u.s. forest service lied to him about the resources available to fight the fire. coming up on newswatch12 at 6.. you'll hear why he says some property loss could have been avoided. in brookings, sionan barrett, newswatch12. turning now to stormwatch 12 meteorologist
