jake says, "well good morning from the 42nd annual pear blossom run. we're just moments away from the start of the ten-mile race. it's already been a busy morning with the 5k and 10k already having wrapped up, the fun runs as well. but of course i'll be running in this 10- mile race. we have similar participation numbers to last year, about 900 runners competing from 15 different states. some of the most noteworthy absences though are kind of making this race interesting because nobody knows who's going to. you have last year's male winner in cole watson and last year's female winner in marci klimek not participating this year, and so maybe you're thinking i can win this one for channel 12. not so fast, i'll be lucky to finish in around an hour and a half. it looks like they're about to sound the gun, so i'm going to take off and head on." away we went. 5 miles out... 5 miles back... a brisk, but perfect for running 50 degrees at start time... i had some catching up to do though... after needing to drop off my jacket and mic... but by mile two... i was into my groove. ===== one of my favorite parts of any race is the camaraderie and support of the volunteers lining the water stations. it's a communal feeling... and i was having a great time... until mile three... leader chris pluh-tawno was already running by. so by my calculations ... when i was making the turn at the halfway point... he was crossing the finish line with a winning time of 52 minutes, 25 seconds. chris says, "kinda wanted to come in here and run about 5:15 average. felt really good about that, actually my watch messed up on the first mile so i wasn't really sure what i was running, but it looks like it was around that pace." shortly after... heather johnson broke the tape... taking home first ago, and i don't know, i'm just figuring this out." back out on the course with the mortals... the personalities were on full display... dads running with strollers... todd bankston... representing the f-15 unit out in klamath falls. and a guy wearing a suit... enough entertainment to will me to the finish. one hour, 28 minutes, and my first pear blossom 10-mile run complete. a change to the medford school district schedule means the
