mark helfrich is headed to the nfl. it was reported this morning that the former oregon head coach and southern oregon almnus has agreed to become the chicago bears offensive coordinator. here's why it works... helfrich developed marcus mariota and was a quarterback back in his sou days. he now inherits mitchell trubisky. here's why it's a bummer. helfrich was also reportedly offered the ucla o-c job a few days ago. which means we could've been in for the electric combination of him, chip kelly and chase cota. but it's all good because after 21 years of coaching college ball, this is helfrich's first stop in the nfl. here's a look at some of his other gigs along the way... helfrich was also the sou running backs coach the year after he graduated... back when charlie hall was the offensive coordinator. he got his first pac-12 job with arizona state and then of course went on to become the oregon head coach. in the coming days, we'll be getting all the southern oregon reaction to this. a lot to unpack with helfrich headed to chicago. turning
