as soon as i know a14]ped killed central ave-llpkg andryanna says: businesses in the area tell me people cross the street here all the time. a clerk at one of those businesses tells me she's also seen a bunch of t- bone and rear-end accidents happen right across from the store. that's what she thought happened early this morning. once she saw first responders, she knew something terrible happened." pam says: "my first instinct was somebody was rear ended but i couldn't find the other car. maybe i knew but my mind wouldn't wrap around what it was." pam fowler is a clerk at the stop and go on south central avenue in medford. she was opening the store this morning when she heard a loud noise she'll never forget. pam says: "i heard a boom which i thought it was someone getting rear-ended which happens a lot out here. my coca-cola rep said why are the emergency vehicles out there and then that's when i found out that a gentleman or woman had been hit outside. fatal." medford police say they got the call just before 7:30 this morning-- that a man was hit by a car on south central avenue. we now know the victim is 63 year old richard bengston. pam says: "i lost it at first because i have some really really dear friends that you know live around here so yeah i kinda thought i lost one of them. i never grabbed somebody so tight when i saw them." police say bengston did not cross the street in a cross walk. sergeant lane says this was not a hit and run. don says: "the driver is being full cooperative, talking with us and so we're looking at all the facts trying to gather all the facts." andryanna says: "medford police tells me this is an on-going investigation. we will continue to update you as soon as we get more information. in medford, andryanna sheppard, newswatch 12." newswatch 12 viewers were the first to find out about this .. because of our push alerts. you can activate the alerts in your newswatch 12 app to get the latest breaking news at your fingertips.
