But not every family can afford to put a thanksgiving meal on the table.

That's why LauRena and Lisa, two local Medford residents, decided to take to social media to offer turkey to anyone who needed it this holiday.

LauRena Gallegos says, "Wasting food I believe is a sin and we should share with one another."

Lisa Pomeroy says, "We have a huge smoker so anything we can cook extra for families in need is great, and there's so many families in need this year."

Both women posted their offering on Facebook.

Lisa Pomeroy says, "Social media is a huge factor in this."

They found families to feed.

Lisa Pomeroy says, "I gave out two turkeys one to a family of five, she was so thankful. and grateful, she told me her kids bellies were full, that was great. And I gave another turkey to a family that was in desperate need. It warms my heart to try and help."

LauRena Gallegos says, "We only had a family of six tonight so we gave out to a family of five and we're sending leftovers to a couple families. They just said thank you very much and were really sweet, they just said happy thanksgiving."

And many people were touched by their gesture on a day that embodies the meaning of giving.

LauRena Gallegos says, "I was really surprised because everyone should be that way with their neighbors."

Both women say they hope their actions can help inspire others to give-- even when it doesn’t seem like a lot.

Lisa Pomeroy says, "So many people are willing to help they just don't know how to do it."
