Juvenile Sentenced For Starting Eagle Creek Fire

The young man's identity remains a secret to protect him and his family.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. — The young man charged with starting the Eagle Creek Fire which burned over 48,000 acres in Oregon has plead guilty at the Circuit Court in Hood River. The court has placed the juvenile on probation of up to five years.

As part of his probation, the juvenile offender will have to serve 1,920 hours of community service, as well as other requirements. The Hood River County Juvenile Department will oversee the juvenile's probation.

The Eagle Creek Fire began on September 2, 2017 and raged well into November. The teenager who now admits that he started the fire was playing with fireworks along with a group of friends.

A hearing on May 17, 2018 at the Hood River Courthouse will address restitution for those who were affected by the fire. Anyone with claims for restitution can mail information regarding their losses to the Hood River County Juvenile Department at 309 State St., Hood River, OR 97031.
