MEDFORD, Ore. – 647,000 Oregonians will be on the roads during the holiday season. According to AAA, this is the most recorded travel in the past 12 years.

If you are getting ready for a long distance car ride here are a few things that you can do to make your ride more safe and smooth.

• Double check car maintenance
• Get a full nights sleep the night before
• Take multiple breaks
• Pack an emergency kit (water, non-perishable food, blankets)

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), if you are traveling through any of the mountain passes into or out of the Rogue Valley you are required to carry chains. They also recommend that you practice putting them on before your trip.
