MEDFORD, Ore. — Fire crews were actively battling a fire at a home on Berrydale Avenue in north Medford on Wednesday morning. Many bystanders were able to see black smoke rising into the sky from miles away, snapping pictures of the ashen plume.

Reports from the scene indicated that all members of the resident family were able to escape the house unharmed, after their family dog warned them about the flames. A couple who identified themselves as the residents said that they grabbed their young child and ran out of the house as quickly as possible.

Neighbors helped the family retrieve their dogs from the back yard, so that both the family and their pets all made it out safe.

The residents said that they believe the fire started in their garage. The cause of the fire is not certain at this time, and is still under investigation.

Both Meford Fire and Fire District 3 responded to the fire after receiving a 911 call from the area. About 20 firefighters worked together to put out the flames.

NewsWatch 12 was on the scene of that fire and will update this story as more details emerge.
