UPDATE: According to Verizon officials, 911 service has now been restored throughout Southern Oregon.

NewsWatch 12 has confirmed with 911 operators in the Medford area that service is back online as of 12PM and operators are calling back on any failed calls made to 911 from this morning.

A Verizon spokesperson issued this official statement when asked for background on the incident:

"The safety of our customers is our utmost priority. Our network engineers worked closely with our vendor, who is responsible for routing 911 calls, to resolve the issue and restore 911 service to cell phones in Southern Oregon."

(Updated as of 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24)

Verizon customers across Southern Oregon are unable to dial 911. At this time the problem appears to be ongoing.

The Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) says this is a wide spread outage, but it is unclear how many people are affected.

According to the Curry County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), they noticed the problem around 1 a.m. this morning, and later confirmed with Verizon that the outage affected all of Southern Oregon, and not just Curry County.

There's no word yet on when this issue is expected to be fixed. CCSO said that Verizon and dispatch centers throughout Southern Oregon have been hard at work to solve the issue.

If you have an emergency text 911 or call the ECSO non-emergency line: (541) 776-7206.
