KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. —

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office applied for and served a search warrant at the apartment of Darrel Grisel in the 4900 block of Harlan Drive.

Deputies say they found stolen items identified and returned to the original owners. They say among these items were a small brass canon, jewelry, keys to vehicles, stolen identification, and other valuables. They also found a small amount of methamphetamine and dismantled shotgun shells were located as well as items believed to be stolen, but whose rightful owners are yet unknown.

The Sheriff's Office says the most notable items are a large amount of collector stamps and decorative dishes.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

A case of vigilante justice in Klamath Falls ended with one man in custody and no serious injuries, according to the Klamath County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). Weapons and drugs found on the suspect after his arrest suggest that the incident could have ended much differently.

According to KCSO, a Klamath County man had his motorcycle and riding gear stolen from him. Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, the man was driving when he spotted someone in his gear, riding his stolen motorcycle.

The theft victim gave chase, which led to a crash in the 2800-block of Homedale Road. The victim was able to jump on the suspect, later identified as Darrel Grisel, and hold him down until a Sheriff's deputy could arrive.

As the deputy approached the victim and suspect, Grisel pulled his hands under his body and refused to show them to the deputy, causing a physical struggle, according to KCSO.

After Grisel was arrested and searched, the deputy found a loaded handgun, a 'substantial quantity' of methamphetamine, and a pipe bomb.

Deputies evacuated six homes nearby as a precaution due to the pipe bomb, and closed down Homedale Road for three hours. The Oregon State Police (OSP) Arson & Explosives Unit were called in from Central Point to deal with the bomb, which they did. Residents were then allowed to return to their homes and the road was opened back up.

Investigators from the Klamath Falls Police Department (KFPD) later searched a residence frequented by Grisel and found more stolen property.

Grisel was treated at Sky Lakes Medical Center for scrapes and bruises sustained during the crash and struggle, and has now been lodged in the Klamath County Jail on a laundry list of charges:

 - Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle
 - Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine
 - Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
 - Unlawful Possession of a Destructive Device
 - Probation Violation for Possession of a Weapon- Warrant issued by US Marshal Service
 - Theft First Degree
 - Burglary First Degree

More charges may be added after further investigation, according to KCSO.
