The fire started around 6 Monday evening.

Fire crews say they sent with 4 fire engines, 2 battalion chiefs, and one water tender from Medford Fire and Jackson County Fire District 3.

They were worried the fire could grow.

The crews were able to knock down the main fire within a couple minutes.

Crews say the wind created a challenge with moving smoke, however the wet soil helped reduce the spread.

Battalion Chief Will Clelland says, "Our first engines found one barn fully involved, with fire spreading to the camper and vehicles nearby. The owners had two horses and a chicken coop in the backside of the barn, the horses got out but the chickens perished."

Neighbor Bill Froehlich says, "Just a shame to lose four wheels, and motorcycles and all your property, but fortunately the horses were ok."

Fire crews said they stayed on scene for a while to monitor hay that was burning in the barn.

The owners recently had two tons of hay delivered and fire crews said it'd be easier to clean once it burned instead of having to haul out two tons of wet hay.
