CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Costco has offically replaced its Medford store with a new facility in Central Point. The new store is 20 percent bigger, at 164,000 square feet.

Costco staff said the move was necessary after it outgrew the space. The Medford location was built back in 1991. The new building will include an expanded hearing aid center, pharmacy, food court and and other amenities found at Costco stores nationwide. The new building also features 24 new gas pumps, each equipped with diesel.

Costco shoppers waiting for the grand opening Thursday said they couldn't wait for the transition.

"I'm very happy about Costco being here. It's more convenient to us since we live in Central Point," said local resident Dan Mcculloch.

"I think it's going to be great," said John Merslich of Rogue River. "I mean it's hard enough to go to the other one and spend a fortune but I have a feeling i'm going to go to this one and spend a whole bank roll."

Some residents are concerned about the traffic. Jackson County Roads is doing utiliy work on Table Rock Road nearby and there's scheduled construction to redo parts of the road next year.

"The traffic is going to be really bad until the Table Rock Road is fixed," said Medford resident Bud Clark. "But once it's fixed and they have a turn lane, it's going to be just right."

You can find the new location at 3075 Hamrick Road.

The orginal location is now closed and there's no word yet on what will happen to the unoccupied space.

Costco operates 13 warehouses in Oregon, 518 in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and 746 worldwide.
